What you will be doing


Safe Start is a prevention, early intervention and treatment framework to improve the mental health outcomes of NSW families. The initiative focuses on the early identification and integrated service management of risk factors in early pregnancy and throughout the first 2 years of life. The model uses a community strengths approach, which has the potential to reduce the impact of mental health problems in children and families.


This position is responsible for the provision of essential perinatal and infant mental health consultation and liaison functions within the SAFE START multidisciplinary model of care. The SAFE START Coordinator will provide these functions to Mental Health, Drug & Alcohol, Maternity, Child & Family Health, Aboriginal Maternal Health and other relevant Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) services, for families with multiple complex needs during the perinatal period.


The position will also be responsible for SAFE START strategic leadership and development and ongoing support of the SAFE START Multidisciplinary Case Discussion (MCD) meetings across MLHD. The role will work in partnership with other relevant MLHD service leaders, supporting the implementation of the SAFE START guidelines, assessment and care planning and Multidisciplinary Case Discussion meeting processes e.g. Terms of References, use of Electronic Medical Records, minute taking, regular reviews, quality improvement strategies and other relevant tasks.

 
Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in a clinical health field, such as Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, Midwifery, and Occupational Therapy with a minimum 3 years post qualification full time experience. Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) if applicable. Eligibility to be a member of relevant professional body such as the AASW.
  • Demonstrated experience working with mothers and babies experiencing mental health and psychosocial vulnerabilities.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the impact of untreated parental mental illness on parenting capacity, mother-infant relationship and child development.
