Where you will be working

Surrounded by orchards, vineyards and olive groves, Young is a historic gold rush town nestled in the Hilltops wine region.

Our District Hospital is a Level 3 26 bed facility that includes a 5 bed Level 3 Maternity service; 24 hour Emergency Department; an Operating theatre and Day Surgery Unit that operates up to 3 days per week; Pharmacy, Medical Imaging and Pathology Departments, and an Outpatient Oncology unit.

A full range of Community Health Services including Paediatric Speech Therapy, Dietetics, Diabetes Nurse Practitioner, Child and Family services, Women’s Health services, Dental Health services, Counselling and Community Mental Health services. An outreach service is also provided to the surrounding district.

The maternity service provides care for women with low to moderate risks under a medical/ midwifery shared care model. There are approximately 140-180 births per year, and the service accommodates mothers and babies transferred for postnatal care from the referral centres. The service is staffed by Registered Midwives, and includes a 24 hour back up on call roster.

About the Opportunity

A McGrath Breast Care Nurse is responsible for provision and coordination of high level patient centred, evidence based clinical care to individuals with breast cancer to optimise their health and wellbeing at all stages across the continuum of care, including diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, follow-up and palliative care. 

Practice incorporates skills and knowledge in supportive care, including specialised and tailored information, education, psychological support and clinical care. It is adapted according to the specific and changing needs and care plan of individuals, taking into account complex health needs, concerns and preferences for care, facilitating this within all care settings and with care providers.
