Selection Criteria:
  1. This is an identified Aboriginal Position. Applicants must be of Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander descent, have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander cultures and have established links with their local Aboriginal community. An applicant’s race is a genuine occupational qualification and exemption is claimed under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures with established links to the local Aboriginal community in Western Sydney.
  3. Holds or is willing to undertake a minimum Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or a minimum Certificate III health qualification in the area of care in which the Aboriginal Health Worker works.
  4. Demonstrated understanding of violence, abuse & neglect issues impacting on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their families and ability and / or experience in providing social support, linkage to services, group work, community education, and health promotion with the Aboriginal community.
  5. Demonstrated ability to provide cultural brokerage with individuals, families who have young children and communities; cultural guidance for other members of the team; and to facilitate respectful and culturally safe access to services.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  7. Demonstrated good oral and written communication skills and computer skills.
  8. Holds a current drivers license valid in Australia and is willing to use for work purposes
