About the Opportunity
Fairfield Hospital is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) Pharmacist (Grade 3) to lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive AMS program. This pivotal role involves driving quality use of antimicrobials through advanced decision-support systems, auditing, and continuous performance evaluation. 


As a vital member of the South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD) AMS team, you will also support infection control accreditation standards, provide expert input into policy and guideline development, and contribute to AMS and infectious diseases rounds.

What you'll be doing
To ensure the ongoing operation and development of a comprehensive antimicrobial stewardship program across Fairfield Hospital including provision of computerised decision support and restriction tools, monitoring performance, evaluating effectiveness, and supporting continuous improvement in quality and safety. Working as a member of the AMS team for SWSLHD ensuring implementation ofthe various aspects of the AMS policy and improving quality use of antimicrobials, liaising with prescribers, pharmacists and other clinicians.

  1. Full AHPRA Pharmacy Board Registration with no restrictions to the scope of practice
  2. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) within a multi­ disciplinary environment.
  3. Excellent interpersonal, consultation and negotiation skills, with a demonstrated ability to develop effective strategic relationships within the Organisation.
  4. Extensive clinical Pharmacy practice experience within a tertiary referral hospital, or experience in antimicrobial stewardship, or in critical care areas or haematology ward or Infectious Diseases
  5. Experience in the development and implementation of programs to manage quality use of medicines, particularly in the area of antimicrobials, or demonstrated participation in other quality improvement programs.
  6. Demonstrated experience in the development and delivery of education programs to various health professionals .
  7. Demonstrated capacity to work independently with a high degree of self-motivation and ability to effect practice change.
  8. Proven ability to critically review and assess practice including identifying opportunities for change and appropriate outcome measures demonstrating the change.
  9. Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
