Aboriginal Health Worker Palliative Care
Selection Criteria
- The applicant must be of Aboriginal descent and be accepted to work within the far west communities with the ability to communicate with Aboriginal people from various communities. (NB applicant’s race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW)
- Certificate IV in Aboriginal Primary Health Care (Practice) or equivalent health qualification and/or working towards the Certificate IV in Aboriginal Primary Health Care (Practice)
- Demonstrated understanding of, and interest in palliative care reflected through work experience and/or attendance at palliative care training and education, and awareness of the issues impacting Aboriginal people in relation to grief and loss, and the impact of this on cultural and social wellbeing
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with health professionals across a range of settings and disciplines.
- Demonstrated computer skills and competency using a range of software programs (word processing, data entry etc) and ability to meet documentation requirements using electronic medical record
- Demonstrated ability to work within the scope of the dedicated role, maintain confidentiality, manage competing expectations of community members, and personal resilience
- Current driver’s licence and ability to travel throughout the LHD as required
