Position Summary:

Applications are invited from skilled and energetic Registered Nurses, who possess a passion for person-centred care to join our dynamic and accomplished multidisciplinary team providing care for people with mental health disorders / illnesses living in the inner city area. The St Vincent’s Caritas team provides specialist mental health assessment, intervention and treatment to consumers with a range of mental health issues ad face a range of social challenges. Nursing staff have the opportunity to work in the acute unit or HDU, working alongside an MDT approach managing consumers with often complex mental health needs. A robust orientation process will allow for a smooth work place transition with a focus on establishing a key set of foundational skills which will enable you to work in the role as a nurse in Caritas.

In addition St Vincent's Hospital has partnered with UTAS (University of Tasmania) to offer Post Graduate Mental Health Qualifications to successful applicants. The post graduate study will be supported with up to 10 days of supernumerary study time, the unique relationship means the successful candidate will be able to access a supported post graduate programme with low fees to be paid for by the successful candidate. Further the committed mental health education calendar sees a reliable delivery of contemporary education facilitated by the mental health MDT.

Although the primary role will be situated in Caritas there maybe scope to work across the mental health service

  • Currently registered as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within the interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy with email and an electronic patient record system.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated evidence of integration of theoretical knowledge and clinical skills, critical thinking and analysis in their daily practice as a registered nurse.
  • Demonstrated effective time management skills and ability to prioritise competing workloads with in a complex environment.
