Are you an experienced Social Worker looking for work in Forensic Mental Health? 


The Forensic Hospital is an integral part of the Forensic Mental Health Network and is operated by the Justice Health & Forensic Mental Health Network.  Located at Malabar this purpose-built 135-bed facility provides high-quality specialised care to male and female, young people and adult forensic patients, in a high-secure therapeutic environment.


The Forensic Hospital currently has a permanent full time position for a suitably qualified Social Worker.  Your demonstrated experience in planning and delivering an effective and efficient social work service to patients and their families and carers, along with your knowledge and understanding of mental health acute care will make you our person of choice.  You will also have relevant case work experience in a mental health setting, proven high level communication skills and experience in the facilitation of therapeutic educational programs and group work.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.

  • A degree in Social Work, or other qualification approved for membership of Australian Association of Social Work
  • Demonstrated experience in crisis intervention, assessment, counselling and discharge planning in an acute and / or long term mental health setting
  • Demonstrated ability to provide therapeutic interventions for individuals/groups and families and a commitment to evidence based practice in a mental health setting
  • Demonstrated capacity to build professional and therapeutic relationships with acutely unwell patients with a mental illness and / or disability
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, deliver and evaluate effective and efficient social work services relevant to a mental health setting
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team in a mental health setting
  • Experience in the facilitation of therapeutic educational programs and group work
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and written communication skills including competent computer literacy
