1. Be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent (pursuant to Section 14 (d) of the Anti-discrimination Act).
2. Hold or working towards obtaining a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, Diploma in Counselling, Djirruwang program or relevant health related qualification and combination of experience
3. A demonstrated knowledge of the Aboriginal concepts of social and emotional wellbeing including an understanding of Aboriginal family structure and Aboriginal culture and wisdom. This will include an understanding regarding the practical and emotional issues that may arise when working with Aboriginal individuals with mental health concerns and their families.
4. Ability to develop and maintain effective partnerships with a range of key stakeholders including clients, carers, families, elders, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, communities, Local Health Districts, government and non-government organisations including courts
5. Knowledge and/or demonstrated skills in mental health care and/or case management and ability to work both autonomously and as a member of a multidisciplinary mental health team, while working within the scope of one’s own role.
6. Demonstrated clear written and verbal communication, including negotiation and problem solving skills, as well as computer skills (MS Office).
7. Current Drivers licence and willingness to travel between metropolitan and rural courts.
