The Role

We are looking for a qualified health care professional with:

  • Current authority to practice as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia
  • Tertiary qualification in health management or working towards or a combination of study and work

Our Nursing Unit Managers provide leadership and manage the delivery of health care services for all patients admitted to Correctional Centres.

The position is an integral part of nursing administration and has responsibility and accountability for planning, development, implementation and evaluation of health services for patients and for overseeing the delivery of those services.

This includes the co-ordination and monitoring of service provision and implementing and monitoring activity relating to service planning and development and policy development. 

This position is required to interface effectively with other managers and service directors within Justice Health and Corrective Service New South Wales (CSNSW) custodial and program staff.

 

Our Location

The Metropolitan Remand and Reception Centre (MRRC) is a maximum-security correctional facility for male offenders and is one of 3 correctional facilities within the Silverwater Correctional Complex in Sydney. Inmates who arrive at the MRRC:

  • Come directly from court on remand
  • Stay at the MRRC while they attend court in the Sydney Metropolitan Area (before returning to their home correctional centre)
  • Stay at the MRRC while they await a vacancy at a centre matching their classification.

Most offenders leave the centre within a few months of their arrival, usually because they obtain bail (and release) or transfer centres.
