The Medical Lead Sexual Assault and Family & Domestic Violence is part of the Prevention and Response Violence Abuse and Neglect (PARVAN) Service,  Medical & Forensic Team.

The primary purpose of the role is to provide high quality diagnostic and consultative specialty medical and forensic services in responding to sexual assault and domestic and family violence (DFV). This includes providing specialised clinical support to assist in the prevention and response to violence, abuse and neglect, as well as participating in teaching, research, quality improvement and administrative activities within the Violence, Abuse and Neglect (VAN) Service and other district health services (e.g. Emergency Department) as required. It also includes maintaining and extending the district’s provision of high-quality medical and forensic care to victims of sexual violence and fulfilling the roles and responsibilities of the Medical Lead outlined in NSW Health’s Responding to Sexual Assault (adult and child) Policy and Procedures.

The Medical Lead Sexual Assault & DFV will have advanced skills in engaging and motivating staff, and developing capability and potential in others that inspires direction and purpose.  They will work closely with the PARVAN Senior Manager, the 0.5FTE Medical Lead incumbent, the Child and Adolescent Safety Paediatrician (CASP), PARVAN Clinical Nurse Consultants and Clinical Nurse Specialists, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners, PARVAN psychosocial staff, Emergency Care colleagues, and more broadly across the health service to provide integrated, culturally safe, and trauma-informed care.

The Medical Lead Sexual Assault and Family & Domestic Violence will actively support innovation and evidence-based practice to develop and deliver effective and sound interventions that operationalise the NSW Health Prevention and Response to Violence Abuse and Neglect (PARVAN) Framework, Service Standards and relevant policies and procedures.
