An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced General Medical Physician to join the ISLHD team. The position is based at Shellharbour Hospital on the beautiful South Coast of New South Wales where training is provided for Medical Students from the University of Wollongong, Junior Medical Officers, Basic Physician Trainees and Advanced Trainees in General Medicine. Although the position is 0.5 FTE there is a possibility of future increase in FTE.
 
Shellharbour Hospital is a 197 bed facility providing a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services. The inpatient services include aged care, medical, surgical, mental health and acute medical assessment inpatient beds, plus a Day surgery Unit. The hospital provides emergency services, elective surgical services, general medical, antenatal and primary family health care, satellite renal dialysis, as well as adolescent and adult mental health services.
 
The successful applicant will join a dedicated and skilled team physicians some of whom are also trained in cardiology, respiratory medicine, endocrinology, renal medicine and infectious diseases. We welcome any physician who has fellowship in general medicine with or without training in other sub-specialties. A physician who has fellowship in sub-specialty medicine but willing and capable of participating in general medicine roster are also welcome to apply.

The Staff Specialist will provide expert medical assessment and management of patients within General Medicine. The position will be primarily located at Shellharbour Hospital but may be varied as agreed with the Director of Medical Services and as approved by the Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC) to other facilities in ISLHD.

    Selection Criteria:
     
    1. Specialist registration or eligible for specialist registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
    2. Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and demonstrated subspecialty training in General Medicine and/or equivalent specialist recognition.
    3. Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
    4. Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality services, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty.
    5. Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital.
    6. Demonstrate the skills and attitudes appropriate as a Senior Medical Practitioner including modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.
    7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites.
    8. Demonstrated experience in and commitment to research relevant to the role and needs of the Department.
