We are seeking applications for committed and passionate Registered Midwives to join our team as the Caesarean Section Midwife.

What you'll be doing

The Caesarean Section Midwife is responsible for attending caesarean sections to receive / resuscitate newborns in the Wollongong Hospital Operating Suite (TWH). The midwife liaises with TWH Nursing Unit Manager of Recovery, Day Surgery and Recovery Room staff. The midwife also liaises with TWH, Birthing Unit, Postnatal, Antenatal, Day Surgery and Neonatal Care staff to provide a seamless service for women and their babies. 
The Caesarean Section Midwife demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of this specialised practice area. The midwife demonstrates and contributes to effective ethical decision making; respects the decisions made by the woman within the ethical framework of midwifery practice and that of the organisation. The midwife shows sensitivity to the family’s needs, values and beliefs; and refrains from imposing personal values on others.

Wollongong Hospital Maternity Services is committed to provide a strong focus on the unique needs of patients and clients as well as the specific strategic and operational needs of the services. The services provides antenatal, birthing and postnatal services to women and babies throughout the Northern Illawarra Hospital Group. It provides inpatient services within our Hospital working alongside the community based midwifery services and is committed to delivering women and family-centred care. Currently the Service is focused on improving the service for both patients and the staff that support it by reviewing models of care, rostering and workplace patterns and workplace culture.

Wollongong Hospital is the largest of Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District’s eight hospitals with 500 beds, over 63,000 emergency presentations and treats more than 48,000 patients annually. It is the region’s tertiary referral hospital and provides a comprehensive range of inpatient and community-based services including; aged care, allied health, medicine and critical care, surgical and medical services, outpatient and referral services.

Successful applicants to the role must provide certified documentation of vaccination history and pathology as part of their recruitment documentation. The applicant must be certified as compliant with before employment can commence.

Selection Criteria
  1. Current registration as a Registered Midwife with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  2. Current neonatal resuscitation skills with recent clinical experience working in a Post Natal/Antenatal ward and Birthing Unit settings.
  3. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others.
  4. Recent demonstrated completion of breastfeeding education and sound knowledge and understanding of Baby Friendly Health Initiative (BFHI) principles.
  5. Demonstrate understanding of evidence based practice and critical thinking.
  6. Ability to provide clinical supervision & education to midwives and nurses, including students, and medical staff as required.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to family centred care and NSW Health Core Values.
  8. Demonstrated competence in the use of health-related information technology.
