What you'll be doing
  • Provide high level mental health assessment, care planning, treatment and discharge planning for people who present to the ED with mental health issues.
  • Implement effective and timely recovery oriented best practice mental health care.
  • Provide clinical support, clinical supervision, leadership and coaching to multidisciplinary staff working within the PECC (where applicable) and ED Setting.
  • Participate within an expanded scope of mental health nursing practice within the ED and participate in the implementation and evaluation of such.
  • Instigate standing orders for medications and physical investigations as deemed clinically appropriate.
  • Provide Brief Intervention Therapy to people presenting to the ED following Self Harm, Suicidal thoughts or behaviours or a diagnosed Personality Disorder.
  • Facilitate continuity of care through working in partnership with Consumers, Carers, Inpatient, Community and Non-Government services.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed an up-to-date course of a COVID-19 vaccine (2 doses) which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Selection Criteria 

  1. Registration with AHPRA as Registered Nurse Division 1 with who has at least 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 3 years full time equivalent experience in the specialty field.
  2. Postgraduate nursing/midwifery qualifications relevant to the field in which he/she is appointed, or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation.
  3. Proven knowledge or experience in acute mental health care, with a demonstrated commitment to recovery oriented mental health service provision.
  4. Proven knowledge and ability to provide innovative therapeutic interventions for people presenting to the ED with Self Harm, Suicidal thoughts or personality disorder.
  5. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including mental health assessment, consultation, liaison and networking skills.
  6. Commitment to the concept of Continuous Quality Improvement, and ability to conduct research/ evaluation and apply to an expanded scope of practice within the ED.
  7. Demonstrated experience in identifying, reviewing, implementing and evaluating clinical pathways / guidelines / flowcharts for specific age related or complex client groups.
  8. Current unrestricted NSW Drivers Licence.
