We are actively looking for a Permanent Part Time - Staff Specialist Geriatrician to join our Aged Care team in the provision of specialist aged care in the Shoalhaven Region. The role involves inpatient, outpatient and consultation services across the whole Shoalhaven Hospital Group. The provision of these services includes delivery of specialist geriatric advice on the management of patients and assistance of patient to appropriate geriatric services throughout the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District.
There is an expectation that this position will be involved in quality improvement projects and supervision of junior medical officers and medical students. Further information can be obtained from the Head of Department of Geriatrics.
Shoalhaven Hospital is a busy acute care facility which provides emergency care, medical, surgical and orthopaedic services to around 22,000 patients each year. The hospital has an Intensive Care Unit that incorporates High Dependency and Coronary Care beds and also provides Emergency Department services. Shoalhaven Hospital boasts a newly renovated 11 bed Acute Geriatric Ward, with a highly supportive and functioning team.
David Berry Hospital provides rehabilitation and slow stream medical care. It also provides specialist palliative care for the Shoalhaven Region. The hospital has 26 beds – 17 in the Rehabilitation Unit and 9 beds in Palliative Care.

    1. Specialist registration or eligible for specialist registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
    2. Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Geriatric Medicine and/or equivalent specialist recognition or registrars in their final year of geriatric training who will have completed all FRACP geriatric medicine requirements by March 2020.
    3. Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
    4. Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality services, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty.
    5. Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital.
    6. Demonstrate the skills and attitudes appropriate as a Senior Medical Practitioner including modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.
    7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites.
    8. Demonstrated experience in and commitment to research relevant to the role and needs of the Department.
