What you'll be doing

Provide opportunities whereby consumers within ISLHD Mental Health Units may choose to participate in exercise activities which promote improved physical health, wellbeing, self-esteem and personal fulfilment.

The Exercise Physiologist position will work collaboratively with clinicians across the inpatient units to develop, implement and evaluate the effectiveness and acceptability of targeted lifestyle interventions to reduce cardio-metabolic risk factors in consumers with mental illness.

The position will contribute to a holistic assessment of the consumer's physical health, developing an individualised and tailored exercise program to meet the consumer's physical health needs and evaluate the effectiveness and acceptability of the program.

The position will contribute to the development of resources for consumers, their families and carers and clinicians.

The position will also participate in the development, delivery and evaluation of training to mental health clinicians, GPs and other key stakeholders.

The Exercise Physiologist will apply clinical knowledge in the assessment, exercise prescription, health education, and delivery of individual and group exercise, lifestyle and behaviour modification programs within the Units. Their consumers may have complex health needs and strong application of practice skills will be necessary. The position will also involve the delivery of health promotion activities, and may be required to provide clinical supervision and support to students on clinical placements.
