The primary focus of the Child and Adolescent Safety Paediatrician (CASP) is to provide clinical and strategic leadership to support holistic, child protection medical and forensic responses within the district. This role is also responsible for developing systems, policies and practices, in partnership with the broader workforce, to ensure optimal health and wellbeing outcomes for children experiencing sexual assault, physical abuse, neglect and/or domestic violence.
This role is expected to provide some direct clinical care to children and young people experiencing sexual assault, physical abuse and neglect and/or domestic violence.
The CASP will have advanced skills in engaging and motivating staff, and developing capability and potential in others that inspires direction and purpose. They will work closely with the Violence, Abuse and Neglect Senior Service Manager, the Medical Lead Adult Medical and Forensic - PARVAN, VAN Clinical Nurse Consultants and Clinical Nurse Specialists, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners, Paediatric colleagues, PARVAN psychosocial staff, Emergency Care colleagues, and more broadly across the health service to provide integrated, culturally safe, and trauma informed care.
The CASP will actively support innovation and evidence-based practice to develop and deliver effective and sound interventions that operationalise the NSW Health Prevention and Response to Violence Abuse and Neglect (PARVAN) Framework, Service Standards and relevant policies and procedures.

1. Medical Practitioner registered or able to be registered in Australia, inclusive of an unrestricted or 19AB exempted provider number, and recognised specialist qualifications.
2. Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, Paediatrics and Child Health Division and/or equivalent specialist recognition and/or specialist recognition within 3-6 months.
3. Appropriate knowledge and clinical experience to practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner in child abuse and neglect including child sexual assault.
4. Ability to work harmoniously and effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment and with a wide range of stakeholders, demonstrating excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
5. Demonstrated understanding of and ability to respond appropriately to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and patients from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
6. Demonstrated knowledge of quality improvement methodologies and experience in initiating and implementing changes to improve clinical service delivery and outcomes, models of care, evidence based practice and practice development.
7. Demonstrated willingness and ability to lead and provide clinical supervision including the ability to provide education, vision and research would be viewed favourably.
