Paediatric Emergency Medicine Trainee positions are available at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick (SCH), for the 2026 Clinical Year, for up to 12 months from 02 February 2026 to 31 January 2027.  

Trainee responsibilities include assessing and managing children in the ambulatory, acute care and resuscitation areas of the Emergency Department.  Trainees will work with a team of paediatric emergency specialists, paediatric trainees, paediatric emergency trainees, emergency trainees, RMO’s and experienced nursing staff. The paediatric Emergency Physicians or Fellows are on site from 08:00 to 24:00, 7 days a week and on-call at other times. It is a requirement of this position that the Paediatric Emergency Trainee will be able to participate in scheduled shift work rosters and a sick relief on-call roster. The Emergency Department formal education program aligns with the paediatric emergency curriculum of ACEM and RACP.

Selection Criteria:

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
  2. At least 3 years postgraduate with 24 months Paediatric or Emergency care experience and currently registered with a recognised Australasian College training program.
  3. Demonstrated competence in paediatric life support with qualification in APLS or equivalent within the last 5 years or a plan to undertake APLS. Please provide details.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the appropriate management of the patient and a commitment to actively contribute to the team. Please provide an example.
  5. Demonstrated clinical competency in procedures in paediatric environments including venepuncture, intravenous cannulation, and resuscitation. Please provide an example.
  6. Ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment. Please provide an example.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing education and commitment to College training and willingness to teach medical students, doctors in training and other health professionals. Please provide an example.
  8. Proven ability to organise, plan and manage competing tasks. Please provide an example.
