Southern NSW Local Health District covers a large area of the Southern half of NSW. Southern NSWLHD comprises of 2 Networks - Inlands centred around Goulburn, Monaro, Queanbeyan and Cooma, AND Coastal centered around Bega, Batemans Bay and Moruya in the far south-east corner of NSW and the Integrated Care Network.


Where you'll be working

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified Medical Officer to join the emergency department team at South East Regional Hospital in the Bega Valley Shire, part of the Coastal Network.

South East Regional Hospital opened it’s doors in 2016 and boasts beautiful country side views which are aesthetically pleasing for any work environment.

South East Regional Hospital offers an emergency department, medical and surgical inpatient beds, a Level 3 maternity service, Level 3 paediatric unit, a critical care unit with 24-hour registrar cover, 3 operating theatres including day surgery, with significant community-based services including renal dialysis services and outpatient cancer medicine services. South East Regional Hospital also offers an inpatient mental health unit and sub-acute rehabilitation unit. In September 2022 a state-of-the-art standalone medical simulation centre will open.




What you'll be doing

The role of Medical Officer will be Reporting to the Department Manager and Director of Medical Services, you will play an important role in providing high quality and safe clinical care to all patients in the Emergency department and be involved in the educational activities of the Department to develop a top-class education framework for other medical officers.

South East Regional Hospital is in Bega - 429 kilometres south of Sydney, 228 kilometres from Canberra or 174 kilometres from the NSW Snow fields and 20 minutes from the coast. Nearby Merimbula (32 kilometres) offers a regional airport with a short 55-minute flight to Sydney and daily flights to Melbourne.

With a range of quality private and public schools in the area, younger generations are well looked after, growing up with fantastic friendly country folk, and a huge range of outdoor activities to keep them occupied with no long commutes.

Selection Criteria

  1. Evidence of Medical Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  2. Experience working as a single practitioner in charge of hospital for at least 12 months at the level of PGY 4 and above.
  3. Demonstrated high level of communication skills.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously as a team member.
  5. Demonstrated evidence concerning continuing medical education.
  6. Commitment to participate in an equitable medical roster, including evenings and weekend shifts.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA).
