Where you'll be working

Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital is a tertiary referral hospital, teaching hospital and community hospital featuring fifteen operating theatres, 550 adult beds and 101 paediatric beds. We are the busiest ED in the state and a major trauma centre for Northern NSW. John Hunter Hospital is a great place to develop your career as we are delivering services to people of all ages, from birth to childhood and adulthood.



What you'll be doing
The purpose of the Senior Resident Medical Officer position is to provide effective medical services to patients under supervision in a complex clinical environment whilst encouraging professional development for the incumbents in Dermatology as well as adult general medicine at the John Hunter Hospital. The 12 month post will include 6 months of Dermatology and 6 months of acute adult general medicine.
 
The SRMO is the key person who works closely with all members of a multi-disciplinary team, deals with matters of an urgent or sensitive nature, whilst exercising discretion, and maintaining confidentiality.

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  2. Minimum 2 years post graduate experience which includes 12 months experience working as a medical officer in an Australian Public Hospital or equivalent.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services.
  4. Demonstrated verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to modify communication style to suit audience.
  5. Evidence of commitment to self-education and continued professional development with experience in teaching.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management
  7. Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
  8. Ability to work at the facilities within the Network (Greater Newcastle Area) to deliver patient care and preparedness and ability to participate in a 24 hrs shift work roster.
