Are you passionate about supporting others on their journey through recovery and wellness? Sutherland Health Service are seeking a dedicated Senior Peer Worker with a focus on trauma informed care, to join our team.

In this role you will have the opportunity empower consumers who attend our emergency department, by providing personalised service navigation support and drawing upon your own lived experience to guide them on their unique recovery path and transitions of care. This role will collaborate with relevant hospital and community mental health and suicide prevention services to ensure access to aftercare support is available for people who need it.

You will be working as part of the wider SESLHD Mental Health Service Peer Support team, including access to peer supervision, education, support, camaraderie and professional development opportunities.

Selection Criteria: 

To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the below questions as thoroughly as possible.

  1. Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work and/or work experience relevant to Mental Health and Suicide Prevention.
  2. Previous experience in a Consumer Peer Worker role, and demonstrated ability to meaningfully and purposefully use lived experience to provide peer support to people accessing mental health services.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge and appreciation of contemporary approaches to suicide prevention and trauma informed service delivery models.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a team in performing a range of management and administrative tasks within allocated timeframe
  5. Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare reports, collect data and co-facilitate education.
  6. Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with key stakeholders
  7. Demonstrated knowledge of primary, secondary and tertiary mental health services, and ability to utilise appropriate support such as crisis response, risk formulation and safety planning
  8. Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adapt work practices to meet current and emerging business needs.
