An exciting opportunity exists to join the Cancer Care team at Illawarra Cancer Care Centre for Clinical Trials position.
Where you'll be working
Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra and Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed base of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.
What you'll be doing
The 10 medical oncology staff specialists at ISLHD Cancer Care Centre pride themselves on providing excellent training opportunities, as well as exposure to their own professional interests across research, medical education and quality improvement.
The purpose of this role is to provide effective clinical management of patients, under appropriate supervision, including patient assessment, making treatment decisions, performing procedures, and maintaining adequate medical records; and to develop expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. This includes supervised general medical management of patients admitted to specialist departments.
The Fellow will be assigned to ISLHD Cancer Clinical Trials Unit at Wollongong Hospital for the specified term of 12 months and will undertake specific tasks and responsibilities based at Wollongong Hospital with attendance at Shoalhaven Cancer Care Centre, as required. The main role is to conduct clinical trials under the supervision of the Medical Co-Director Cancer Services or delegated trial Principal Investigator.
Additional responsibilities are to provide clinical care to medical oncology clinical research patients under the supervision of Principal Investigators for two clinics per week and support the provision of inpatient care as required. The Fellow will work as part of a multidisciplinary team in the Clinical Trials Unit. This position will participate in clinical meetings, and teaching and be subject to training and performance reviews, as required.

Selection Criteria:
- MBBS or equivalent, current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Completion of Part 1 requirements for Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and demonstrated initiative during Advanced Training.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a project (for example: research, quality assurance) and demonstrated ability in basic research skills; literature review; critical thinking; data collection; data analysis and reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilizing excellent clinical skills, judgement and expertise.
- Demonstrated organizational skills, good time management skills and capacity for self-directed learning.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the capacity to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Commitment to core values of hospital based medical practice: patient care, teaching, research and quality improvement.
- Experience conducting medical oncology clinical trials and reviewing and assessing cancer patients on medical oncology clinical trials.
