Prince of Wales Hospital and Community Health Services is a major teaching hospital and tertiary referral centre, providing excellent healthcare to south-eastern Sydney and specialist health and medical services to NSW.
We have 450 inpatient beds and almost 3,000 staff. Each year we care for more than 60,000 patients in our Emergency Department and around 50,000 patients are admitted to the inpatient units of our hospital. We also have a busy outpatient service and rural outreach service and provide more than 900,000 occasions of non-admitted patient care each year.

What you'll be doing
Our Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) Fellow in Nephrology will provide expert medical care to inpatients and outpatients of the Nephrology departments. They will practice under the supervision and direction of Specialist Nephrologists to assess and medically manage a comprehensive range of illnesses and disorders related to kidneys and the urinary tract.
The AKI Fellow has completed or is due to complete advanced training in Nephrology with an interest in AKI and a commitment to clinical research. The AKI Fellow will spend 50% of their time with clinical responsibility for AKI management (including day to day supervision of the operation of eAlerts in AKI) and 50% in clinical AKI research including the AKI eAlerts project.
AKI Fellows participate in outpatient services in ambulatory care settings and hospital wards. The role includes patient assessment, treatment decisions, performing procedures and maintaining adequate medical records; and developing deep expertise in AKI practice in complex clinical environment. The role usually involves oversight of advanced trainees (ATs) and basic physician trainees (BPTs) in AKI care. The role may involve on call work along with ATs and BPTs.
The AKI Fellow reports to the Head of Department and is a key person who works closely with all members of staff and must:
- Have the ability to exercise discretion, sensitivity and maintain confidentiality.
- Be able to work co-operatively as a member and contributor in a complex multi-disciplinary team, including pro-active participation in team meetings and decision-making processes.
- Be able to provide and participate in performance monitoring.

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Working towards Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians with an expectation to complete by end of 2026 clinical year.
- Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality renal services commensurate with level of experience, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in appropriate environments including evidence of participation in quality improvement
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital
- Demonstrated experience in the management of acute and chronic renal failure including peritoneal dialysis, haemodialysis, and transplantation.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team
- Demonstrated interest in research and translation into practice, as well as a commitment to enrol in a higher degree will be an advantage
