What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the role of the Provisional Fellow in Respiratory Medicine is to a provide program of additional training to develop subspecialty interest in Interstitial Lung Disease, and to further develop core clinical skills required in this area. The Fellow will have completed advanced training (or equivalent) to become a specialist medical practitioner in Respiratory Medicine or have completed specialist training in another discipline relevant to the Fellowship training program.
 
This Fellow role will have clinical responsibilities in the Ambulatory Care setting with Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) patients (3 clinics per week and outpatient case management daily) and ILD clinical trials (daily). The Fellow will provide high quality clinical care, diagnostic and consultative specialty services in Respiratory Medicine at the level of a Fellow, and participate in teaching, research, quality improvement and administrative activities within the Respiratory Department and RPA Hospital as required. They will ensure high standards of professional performance and contribute to an academic environment which supports education, research and professional development.
 
The research responsibilities of the Fellow role will include participation in multi-centre clinical trials and setting up and coordinating a RedCap database, contribution to multiple ILD clinical research projects and attending bi-weekly research meetings. The quality improvement responsibilities will involve writing standard operating procedures and policies for the various activities of the ILD clinic.
 
They will ensure high standards of professional performance and contribute to an academic environment supportive of education, research and  professional development .

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Undertaken specialist training in Respiratory Medicine and/or have other equivalent specialist recognition and qualifications, with the ability to adapt clinical practice in accordance with contemporary evidence based best practice.
  3. Demonstrated commitment to the conduct of high integrity, respectful, and collaborative clinical research.
  4. Demonstrated effective communication skills (written and verbal), clinical skills, judgement and expertise, teamwork, time management and problem-solving skills in a clinical setting.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
  6. Demonstrated track record in supervision and training of junior medical staff, including prevocational and advanced trainees.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to continuing self-education and professional development, including evidence of participation in continuing medical education and continuing professional development.
  8. Demonstrated ability to comply with the service objectives of the Sydney Local Health District, including the provision of services to local community, effective use of resources, preparedness to participate in provision of health services at District level, if credentialed.
