Where you’ll be working

The vision for South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is ‘exceptional care, healthier lives’. SESLHD is committed to enabling our community to be healthy and well, and to providing the best possible compassionate care when people need it.

Prince of Wales Hospital serves as a major referral centre within SESLHD. While Advanced Trainees in Medical Oncology undertaking a core training year are jointly recruited to both Prince of Wales and St George Hospitals, this non-core, full-time training position will be based exclusively at Prince of Wales Hospital, with some exposure to medical oncology services at the Royal Hospital for Women.

The position will be based more specifically at the Nelune Comprehensive Cancer Centre, renowned as a center of excellence of world-class facilities and services. These include:

  • A comprehensive tumour stream-based cancer service facility
  • A cardio-oncology clinic
  • Cancer survivorship clinics
  • The Precision Oncology clinic, the first of its kind in the country
  • A substantial Clinical Trial and Research Unit, overseeing over 20 phase 1-3 clinical trials ongoing at any given time
  • A new oncology ward in the acute services building

The Nelune Comprehensive Cancer Centre is situated at the Randwick Health and Innovation precinct.

What you'll be doing

The Medical Oncology Clinical Fellow position is accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) for Medical Oncology training programs as a non-core term. This position offers a one-year contract. Candidates who have completed all three years of training but are willing to continue at the Advanced Trainee level of appointment will also be considered suitable.

This appointment offers a valuable opportunity, ideally suited for third- or fourth-year Advanced Trainees. The role involves collaborating within a large clinical and academic team, providing clinical care, engaging in clinical work within a subspecialty of interest and per service requirements, and participating in clinical research projects. The medical oncology clinical fellow will operate within a multidisciplinary setting, collaborating with full-time clinicians and researchers.

SESLHD is committed to creating a workplace that reflects the diversity of our community. This will help ensure our employees, our patients and their carers, feel supported. We encourage people from different backgrounds to apply.

We welcome applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates and we have an Aboriginal Employment Consultant that can provide support. If you have any questions or would like guidance on the recruitment process, please contact the SESLHD Aboriginal Employment Team via email to: SESLHD-AboriginalWorkforce@health.nsw.gov.au.
