Come join our dynamic St George Inpatient Mental Health team which provides quality services to our client population helping to improve recovery.

 

As a part time weekend Diversional Therapist, you a fellow Diversional Therapist will develop and deliver a group/activity program within our Acute Mental Health Unit on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Diversional Therapist is responsible for coordinating and a unit based therapeutic activity/group program for the clients in the St George Acute Inpatient Mental Health Unit on Saturdays and Sundays. In partnership with a fellow Diversional Therapist, the activity/group program will be delivered to the client population each weekend. The role is supported by Nursing staff members.

You will be working at the Mental Health Inpatient Unit,  located on the St George Hospital campus, Kogarah - close to beaches and cafe lifestyle.

Selection Criteria: 

To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the below questions as thoroughly as possible.

  1. Hold a recognised health science or applied science bachelor's degree in leisure, recreation or diversional therapy recognised by the Australian Recreational Therapy Association (ARTA), or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer.
  2. Demonstrated capacity to develop, co-ordinate and evaluate Diversional Therapy programs in a health care setting.
  3. Have a high level of verbal and written communication skills
  4. Demonstrated understanding of Mental Health Issues and their impact on patients in an acute inpatient unit setting.
  5. Ability to work from a recovery based approach within a multidisciplinary team context involving consumers and carers in program planning
  6. Willingness to develop own professional skills through active participation in professional development activities.
  7. Current drivers licence (or a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position)
