NSW Health Pathology

  • High profile executive leadership role, reporting to the Chief Executive
  • Outstanding opportunity to impact our world class pathology and forensic services
  • Flexible location – Sydney or Newcastle, NSW

Overview

NSW Health Pathology (NSWHP) is a critical part of the NSW Health system and provides state-wide pathology and forensic services across the NSW Health and Justice systems.  It is the largest public pathology service in Australia, with an annual budget of $730m, 5,000 staff, 60 laboratories and over 150 collection services across NSW.  NSWHP performs over 100,000 clinical and scientific investigations each day.  70% of all medical decisions rely on pathology.

NSWHP has an operating model designed to create closer, more responsive relationships with customers and better support the needs of metropolitan, regional and rural services. The setting is evolving rapidly, and NSWHP is at the forefront of a transformation agenda which includes developing new service hubs, creating innovative labs for the future, harnessing digital and AI capabilities and ultimately ensuring the delivery of sustainable, world class pathology and forensic services.

NSWHP is seeking an outstanding Director Finance and Corporate Services (DFC).

About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Executive and part of the Executive Team, the DFC is a critical business partner providing support, reporting and expert advice to the CE, the Board and wider NSW Health. Based from either Sydney or Newcastle, the DFC is responsible for leading the financial strategy, managing budget performance, risk, governance, capital expenditure, corporate services and other key strategic and operational matters.

The DFC is also responsible for the centralised Corporate Services functions including Revenue and Pricing, Procurement, Fleet and Logistics. The DFC provides inspirational leadership to a direct team of 4 and a much larger indirect statewide team, fostering a responsive, future focused and contemporary culture which supports staff to deliver true excellence.  The capacity to forge strong relationships with key stakeholders including NSW Health, academic and research partners, NSW local health districts and the wider community is also a key part of the role.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will be a contemporary executive finance leader, CA or CPA, with significant experience managing financial strategies within a large, complex, customer focused organisation.  Your experience may have been gained within a government or public sector agency; alternatively we will consider private / NFP experience, in which case you will ideally have interfaced with government funders, stakeholders or partners in some capacity within your recent career.  Critical to your success will be your ability to lead, motivate and inspire your team to be the very best, within a highly challenging and demanding environment. You will be an outstanding communicator with excellent stakeholder skills and a natural ability to influence and engage at all levels. You will be purpose driven, outcomes focused, collaborative, empathetic and have a passion for creating cultures that support people to thrive.
