An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Child, Adolescent & Youth Mental Health Service (CAYMHS) for an enthusiastic Child and Adolescent Consultant Psychiatrist. This full time position is split across 2 teams, you would be joining the newly established Safeguards Team (ST) as 0.5FTE and our dynamic Child and adolescent team as 0.5FTE.

The governance of the ST resides with CAYMHS and this means the psychiatrist will be part of a well-established 8.0FTE team, including other C&Y psychiatrist and Registrars / College trainees. The ST also has funding for a full-time Registrar position and active steps are underway to recruit to this position as well.

The Child and adolescent team is made up of C&Y Psychiatrists, Registrars/College Trainees and a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, social workers, nurses, dieticians and occupational therapists. Opportunities exist to care for young people and families experiencing moderate-severe mental illnesses including eating disorders, early psychosis, depression and anxiety, neurodevelopmental comorbidities, C-PTSD, Personality Disorders and OCD. We operate across 2 outpatient settings in Wollongong and Nowra, with inpatient opportunities available in Shellharbour.

There will be opportunity to lead teams virtually serving consumers in the community and inpatient settings in the local area. The role will involve the use of cutting edge telehealth technology in providing timely access to individualised and holistic assessment and care by expert multidisciplinary clinicians across a geographically dispersed LHD.

  1. Specialist registration or eligible for specialist registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  2. Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) and/or equivalent specialist recognition and/or specialist recognition within 6 months.
  3. Membership of the Faculty of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (RANZCP) and/or other equivalent specialist recognition as provided for in the NSW Staff Specialist (State) Award and/or expecting certificate within 6 months.
  4. Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
  5. Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality services, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and research with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital.
  7. Demonstrate the skills and attitudes appropriate as a Senior Medical Practitioner including modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites.
