Sydney Local Health District is seeking a highly motivated Advanced Trainee to join the neonatology team within the Department of Newborn Care
What you will be doing:
This position is open to qualified candidates who are currently in advanced neonatal and/or general pediatric training. This position presents an ideal opportunity to further a candidates neonatal specific clinical skills. You will be part of the neonatal team at RPA, primarily managing acute care babies within the neonatal intensive care unit, special care unit and postnatal ward- all with the appropriate degrees of independence.
Within the role, there are also opportunities to further enhance your skills in both clinical research and teaching, with support provided in both these activities.
Department of Newborn Care
RPAH has a level 6 obstetric and highly regarded maternal fetal medicine service which contribute to >5000 deliveries / year at RPAH. As well as managing all babies requiring intensive care support within the Sydney Local Health District, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a level 5 service and also part of the NSW state-wide neonatal referral service. In total the unit has 1000 admissions annually. The candidate will be seen as a senior member of the JMO team, and be given responsibilities to manage babies within NICU, the special care unit, postnatal ward and outpatients with appropriate levels of supervision.
The Department of Newborn Care incorporates a broad multidisciplinary team managing inpatients and outpatients. The successful applicant will need to be able to work efficiently within these teams, have high level communication skills and work seamlessly with other professionals within the department, and RPAH.

RPAH is also one of Australia's leading quaternary referral hospitals, providing an extensive range of diagnostic and treatment services. - MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Registered for advanced training in Neonatology or advanced general paediatric training with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent.
- At least six months experience as an advanced trainee in a Neonatal Intensive Care unit with an interest in undertaking further advanced training in Neonatology within Australia.
- Demonstrate developed skills in all procedures used in neonatal intensive care.
- Ability to make independent clinical decisions within the limits of ability and to know when to consult for advice.
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills with colleagues and families and have a good track record of working well within a team.
- Demonstrate an interest and an ability to perform independent research, and demonstrate an understanding of good teaching methods and a commitment to instruction and supervision of Junior Medical and other clinical staff.
