About the role

The primary role of this position is to ensure the prompt sourcing of raw data from internal and external clients and delivery of processed data to the data linkage and integration teams. The individual in this role will be tasked with managing and enhancing our existing data sourcing processes, with the aim of increasing our ability to deliver linked data to our clients on time. Furthermore, the incumbent will contribute to the redesign of the data pipelines to better cater to both current and future business requirements and to increase automation and data re-use capabilities.


Health Manager level 3, starting salary from $127,150 - $144,444 plus Super and annual leave loading, with a 38-hour work week.


What you will do

  • Lead Data Sourcing Activities: Pro-actively initiate and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders and data custodians, in relation to data requests and supply, timeframes, customer requirements and electronic exchange of data utilizing available secure IT systems.
  • Ensure Quality Control: Play a pivotal role in the design, build, and delivery and monitoring of quality control metrics specific to data received from custodians.
  • Maintain Data Security and Compliance: Undertake safe and effective secure exchange of data with data custodians and ensure that the raw data received from the Data custodian is in the expected format.
  • Manage Data Retention and Deletion: Actively oversee data retention and deletion processes to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  • Supervise Data Sourcing Team: Ensure efficient data sourcing completion by effectively planning and executing and managing tasks assigned to other member(s) of the data sourcing team.


About you


We are seeking motivated and committed individuals who can support the work of NSW Health with: 

  • Relevant Tertiary Qualifications: Have relevant tertiary qualifications with a demonstrated experience in working with data across various industries such as health, retail, and government.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Show excellent written and oral communication skills, active listening, interpersonal and supervision abilities. Capable of effectively communicating with both technical and nontechnical personnel within and outside our business unit.
  • Ability to use Data Management Systems and Tools: Show advanced ability in using modern data management systems and software tools, including hand-coded SQL scripting and other programming/scripting tools like SAS, Python/R.
  • High-Level Analytical Thinking Skills: Have high-level conceptual, evaluation, and analytical thinking skills. Capable of defining problems, analyzing requirements, understanding population health information, and finding, addressing, and managing data quality issues.

Describe in detail a project where you performed extensive data processing (files in varying formats) and managed multiple data sourcing or similar workstreams like establishing new data pipelines. Include:

  • Your role and project objectives.
  • Software and programming languages used.
  • Challenges faced and solutions implemented.
  • Coordination of multiple workstreams relevant to data sourcing and processing activities.
  • Data analysis methods for data reconciliation against requirements. Note, this role is not about performing analysis to obtain insights or publishing reports.
  • Lessons learned and how you have applied them in future projects.


Question 2: Managing Project Delays


Provide detailed example of a project delay caused by a colleague or client while proactively managing several data sourcing or similar workstreams. Include:

  • Project nature and delay cause.
  • Communication and mitigation steps.
  • Management of multiple workstreams.
  • Stakeholder expectation management.
  • Root cause analysis.
  • Lessons learned and application to improve project management.
