This is a newly created role which provides clinical leadership for strategic and operational activities to enhance the capacity of the public health system to prevent and better respond to sexual assault, domestic and family violence and child physical abuse and neglect. The role is responsible for providing statewide strategic, policy and clinical expertise and leadership on VAN Integration and for leading the development of integrated, culturally safe and trauma-informed models of care for NSW Health’s violence, abuse and neglect services and programs. This includes leading the development of governance and other statewide leadership systems and activities to support better integration. The role will also facilitate integration between, and collaborate closely with, PARVAN managers and clinical advisers in Government Relations, Strategy and Violence Prevention, Centre for Alcohol and Other Drugs, Health and Social Policy, Mental health, Centre for Aboriginal Health, and Sydney Children’s Hospitals Networks.

 

Health Manager level 6, starting salary from $182,575 - $199,405 plus Super and annual leave loading, with a 38-hour work week.


What you will do

 

  • Provide high-level expert strategic and clinical advice regarding Violence, abuse and Neglect (VAN) Integration and service and system redesign for health services focussing on responses to people who have experienced violence, abuse and neglect.
  • Lead the development of: strategic policy; service improvement; integrated, evidence-based and comprehensive models of care; statewide governance; and other leadership and capacity building activities to support VAN Integration and implementation of the VAN Redesign Program across NSW Health. This includes leading implementation of NSW Health’s Integrated Prevention and Response to Violence, Abuse and Neglect (IPARVAN) Framework and the development; Centres of Excellence in VAN Integration; and Adult Survivors Program draft program model. 
  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based clinical advice to address current and emerging strategic, systems and clinical issues in health and interagency service and policy responses to violence, abuse and neglect.
  • Provide clinical advice and capacity-building, including in relation to complaints, investigations, reviews or coronial inquests, to improve: the health response to victims of sexual assault, domestic and family violence, and child physical abuse and neglect; and integration efforts across the different forms of violence, abuse and neglect and other health issues, psychosocial, medical and forensic responses, adult and child services, and between health and interagency partners (government and non-government).
  • Lead collaboration with clinicians, including clinical advisors, and other stakeholders and represent PARVAN and NSW Health in key NSW Health and interagency committees and advisory groups related to violence, abuse and neglect.

 

About you:

 

We are seeking motivated and committed individuals who can support the work of NSW Health with: 

 

  • Relevant psychosocial tertiary qualification and/or practice credentials such as in Social Work or Psychology or Counselling (3-year degree or equivalent).
  • Extensive clinical and management experience in Violence, Abuse and Neglect Services, policy and/or programs in NSW Health and/or in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations.
  • A sound understanding of evidence-based best practice in relation to providing appropriate, safe, high quality, effective and efficient trauma-informed, culturally safe, and integrated psychosocial and medical and forensic models of care to victim-survivors of all forms of violence, abuse and neglect and their families.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate with an elevated level of autonomy in exercising judgement on critical issues, particularly in relation to the integration, quality, safety and effectiveness of VAN Services and programs including the frequent resolution of unusual and complex problems and complex clinical cases.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading strategic change and system redesign and ability to negotiate complex issues and facilitate solutions through effective communications and stakeholder engagement.
