About the role:

This role will see you provide specialist support to people who are experiencing or recovering from suicidal distress. You will work in partnership with peer workers to provide trauma-informed and recovery-oriented support for people who are in crisis.

This role is a permanent opportunity and is currently based at James Fletcher Newcastle, however the successful applicant will ideally work across both the Newcastle and Charlestown sites to support service delivery.

The team operates 4 days per week – Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 8:30-4pm.

About the team:

The Suicide Prevention Outreach Team (SPOT) is part of the Greater Newcastle Mental Health Service. The Suicide Prevention Clinician works in partnership with the Suicide Prevention Lived Experience Peer Worker. There are two teams within the Greater Newcastle service, based at different locations. The team is supported by a multidisciplinary team and the Greater Newcastle Acute Care Team Manager and Clinical Coordinator.

About You:

This role requires a demonstrated ability to work with people at risk of suicide. You should have high level verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, as well as the ability to independently problem-solve.

Requirements:

  • Must hold a qualification: Occupational Therapy, Clinical Psychology/Clinical Psychology in Training, Nursing, Social Work, Counsellor (Degree in Bachelor of Health Science Mental health, Djirruwang Program) which provides eligibility or membership of the relevant professional association / provisional or general registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
  • Eligible to drive in NSW and willingness to travel for work purposes.
  • At least 3 years’ clinical experience working with people with mental health concerns

    • To be eligible for permanent employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or a permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport.
