Where you'll be working:
Gloucester Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital is a 14-bed General Ward with a busy 3-bed Emergency Department and an operating theatre that supports General Surgery and Ophthalmology through Visiting Surgeons and Medical Officers. This role is based at the adjacent Community Health Centre, which delivers a wide range of nursing and allied health services to the local community.

Nestled at the meeting point of the Barrington, Gloucester, and Avon rivers, Gloucester is a picturesque rural gem in the heart of the Barrington Coast. Just a few hours north of Sydney and only 1 hour and 20 minutes from Newcastle Airport, this welcoming town is surrounded by awe-inspiring national parks, cascading waterfalls, and outdoor adventure at every turn—from kayaking and bushwalking to horse riding and heritage trails.

About the role:
As a Social Worker at Gloucester Health Service, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality, person-centred care through assessment, treatment, and case coordination. Working both independently and as part of a supportive, multidisciplinary team, you’ll be backed by visiting clinical educators and connected remotely to a broader network of experienced colleagues.

In this role, you will:
  • Provide evidence-based, client-centred interventions as a core member of the healthcare team
  • Support patients and families through complex health and social challenges, including ward-based care planning
  • Exercise sound professional judgement within organisational, legal, and ethical frameworks
  • Navigate complex systems such as aged care, NDIS, and guardianship with clarity and compassion
  • Contribute to service improvement and drive positive outcomes for consumers
  • Champion culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and collaborative approaches to care

About you:
You are a compassionate and capable Social Worker who brings:

  • The confidence and motivation to work independently in a dynamic environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport
  • Cultural awareness and the ability to engage respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds
  • A strong work ethic, clear professional boundaries, and effective time management
  • Experience navigating the Aged Care and NDIS systems
  • An understanding of (or willingness to learn) guardianship tribunal processes
  • A commitment to continuous learning and a collaborative, team-based approach to care


Requirements:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work
  • Eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
  • Experience in a healthcare or hospital-based social work setting
  • Understanding of aged care, disability, and mental health systems
  • Current NSW Driver’s Licence
