About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse, who has a desire to work with people with an eating disorder receiving specialist care delivered within a rehabilitation framework. The role will include working amongst a team to enhance the therapeutic milieu and deliver a therapy program focused on providing care interventions to meet the physical and mental health care needs of the client.

The successful candidate will work amongst a specialist team to further develop their knowledge and experience to contribute to the development of collaborative care goals, provide specialist care interventions and meet the day-to-day needs of the client within the service. 

You will report to the REDC Service Manager and receive ongoing guidance from a Transitional Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialists on site. The RN will be part of a specialist multidisciplinary team, including allied health professionals and assistants in nursing, offering opportunities to enhance therapeutic skills. Professional development will be encouraged through clinical supervision, both internal and external, and additional training during performance reviews. Orientation to the role will include service-wide training and team-building activities, with all team members starting on the same day.

Where you’ll be working:

In 2024, Hunter New England Local Health District will open Baiyangbaiyaang, a statewide, comprehensive eating disorder treatment service. It includes a residential eating disorder centre (REDC) in Charlestown and an Eating Disorder Day Program (EDDP) in Newcastle. The REDC is a 12-bed, purpose-built facility providing an intensive, multidisciplinary treatment program for people 16 years and older in a homelike setting, focusing on eating disorder treatment and overall quality of life. The EDDP offers a group therapy program four days a week, providing meal support and skills-based groups to help clients tackle challenges and build a fulfilling life.

Baiangbaiyaang will operate statewide, collaborating with both public and private sector stakeholders, and sit within the Hunter New England Local Health District. The service will be available 24/7, with the RN role involving shifts on a 7-day rotating roster to ensure continuous care.

 

Additional information:

  • An eligibility list will be created for future permanent full or part time and temporary full or part time vacancies.
  • This position is full time; however, part time arrangements will be considered (minimum 4 days per week).

Requirements:

Our successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.
  • Eligible to drive in NSW and willngness to travel for work purposes.
  • Must hold a valid Working with Children Check.
