The service:
Drug and Alcohol Clinical Services (DACS) aims to improve health and reduce harm for individuals, their families and carers and the wider community.
DACS is a specialist treatment service for people with substance use problems. Harm Minimisation is a key tenet of the model of care. It is a multidisciplinary service that includes nursing, medical and allied health clinicians alongside peer support and Aboriginal health workers. The Lakeview Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal Management Service, located within Belmont Hospital, is a 12-bed facility designed to assist patients safely withdraw from drug and alcohol.
The role:
In this role, you’ll utilise your clinical skills to assess, plan, and deliver high-quality, individualised nursing care. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include case management, patient observation, medication administration, and meaningful patient engagement. You’ll also provide withdrawal management nursing care, using motivational interviewing and brief interventions to support recovery. A key part of the role involves delivering harm minimisation strategies, and you may be involved in high dose transfers from Methadone to Depot Buprenorphine.
If you’re a Registered Nurse keen to gain experience in drug and alcohol nursing and you engage well with vulnerable people in a non-judgemental, de-escalating manner, we want to hear from you! While some previous experience in drug and alcohol settings is preferred, it’s not essential — a caring nature, willingness to learn, and the ability to build trust with patients are what matter most.
