About us:

On the banks of the Namoi River, Gunnedah is a five-hour drive from Sydney and just one hour from Tamworth. You can catch the train from Sydney, which takes around six hours, or fly into Tamworth Airport and rent a car to explore the region.

The maternity unit focuses on the comfort of mothers during labour with GP Obstetrician-led model of care for low-risk births greater than 37 weeks. Community involvement in the maternity unit is extremely high with a local community group, PRAMS (PaediatRic and Maternity Service), fundraising on an ongoing basis to modify and improve the facilities at the maternity unit.

About the role:

As a Registered Midwife, you will play a pivotal role in:

  • Delivering compassionate, woman-centered care in partnership with women and their families.
  • Leading and coordinating midwifery care in collaboration with Registered Nurses, Student Midwives, Assistants in Midwifery, and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Supporting women to make informed decisions by acting as their advocate.
  • Planning and evaluating midwifery care based on comprehensive assessments and individual needs.
  • Supervising and mentoring staff, including students on clinical placement.
  • Responding effectively to emergencies and changes in clinical status.
  • Making appropriate referrals to ensure a smooth transition from hospital to home.

About you:

The Gunnedah Maternity Unit is seeking a skilled and confident midwife who thrives in providing high-quality care to women throughout their pregnancy, birth, and postnatal journey. This role requires a professional comfortable working primarily as a sole practitioner, supported by an on-call team when needed.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the complexities of modern maternity care and the ability to apply exceptional clinical management and collaborative skills. You will play a crucial role in empowering women and their families during this significant and transformative time in their lives.

Your previous experience over antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care and ability to build strong, trusting relationships with women and their families are essential for success in this role. If you are passionate about providing compassionate, woman-centered care and are ready to make a meaningful impact, we encourage you to apply.
