About the role:
John Hunter Hospital is actively looking for dedicated and motivated individuals to become part of its newly strengthened pharmacy team. We have multiple roles available within the John Hunter Hospital Pharmacy department, including up to two traineeships to undertake formal studies towards nationally recognised training courses in Hospital Pharmacy Services.

These fundamental tasks of these roles is the provision of safe, efficient and effective supply of pharmaceuticals and other supportive pharmaceutical services to patients of Hunter New England Local Health District. This includes distribution of medications to wards and departments and providing assistance in dispensing of prescriptions, preparation of manufactured sterile and non-sterile products and associated clerical duties.

These roles will be supported by our senior pharmacy technicians who will provide induction, orientation and ongoing training and education, under the supervision of our pharmacists.

  • Our growing team of around 75 staff consists of pharmacists, assistants, technicians, stores and administrative personnel. We work as a team to ensure the safe, efficient and timely provision of medication services to both inpatients and outpatients of the John Hunter Hospital.

  • John Hunter Hospital delivers a variety of inpatient and outpatient acute and sub-acute health care services to the Newcastle community and provides exposure to a variety of disciplines and specialties.

  • You have experience working in a pharmacy environment, even better if that is within a public hospital, or if not pharmacy experience, you are excellent at customer service provision and stock management

Requirements and additional information:

  • Willingness to work weekend and rotating roster.
  • Appointment to grade will be in accordance with qualifications held as per the Health Employees State Award
    • Pharmacy Assistant Grade 1: no formal qualifications
    • Pharmacy Assistant Grade 2: holds a qualification in a relevant field up to the level of Certificate III in Community Pharmacy
    • Pharmacy Technician Grade 1: holds a qualification in a relevant field up to the level of Certificate III in Hospital Pharmacy
    • Pharmacy Technician Grade 2: holds a qualification in Certificate IV in Hospital Pharmacy
  • An eligibility list will be created for future permanent full or part time and temporary full or part time vacancies.
  • This position is full time; however, job share and/or part time arrangements will be considered.
