About the Role:
In this newly created position, the Nurse Manager will be responsible for working with Aboriginal nurses and midwives to support their work, both culturally and professionally. You will develop programs and initiatives that will uplift Indigenous staff to develop their career and provide leadership from a cultural perspective. A true change agent, your ability to translate Aboriginal culture to non-indigenous people will enable you to provide expert appraisal to HNELHD executive, management, and other stakeholders. 

You won’t be working alone. You will be provided with a comprehensive orientation to the Nursing and Midwifery directorate and will connect closely with the District Manager Aboriginal Employment. You will also be supported by multiple local Aboriginal networks throughout our district. 

As our preferred candidate, you will have:

  • Demonstrated lived experience of identifying as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander registered nurse or midwife and use that experience to provide cultural support to others.
  • High level communication skills, across written and verbal forms.
  • An ability to engage with people across disciplines and cultures
  • A high level of resilience, and ability to advocate for Aboriginal culture; including highlighting systemic racism.
  • Experience supporting non-indigenous and Aboriginal people to learn about Aboriginal culture.

Requirements:

  • This is an identified Aboriginal position. Applicants must be of Aboriginal descent. Exemption is claimed under section 14d of the anti-discrimination act 1977.
  • Registered Nurse with current Authority to Practice with AHPRA.
  • Eligible to drive within NSW and be willing to travel between locations.
  • Completion of post-graduate qualifications in Nursing Leadership, Change Management and/ or Education
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a relevant field
