About us:
YP-COPMI is a specialist mental health service for Children of Parents with a Mental Illness. This position sits within the local Newcastle Adult Mental Health Team based at James Fletcher Hospital Campus. YP-COPMI works alongside the allocated adult mental health clinician and teams collaboratively with a family focused lense to support care for both parent and children. YP-COPMI has a key role in establishing key care pathways and referrals to ongoing providers in the community. This role is underpinned by the NSW Health Family Focused Recovery Framework.

About the role:
YP-COPMI provides time limited, specialist child and infant mental health support, either provided through direct patient care or case consultation – when a young person’s parent is linked with an Adult Mental Health Team for a range of severe or complex mental health disorders.

You will offer specialist assessment, joint care coordination, and therapeutic interventions alongside adult mental health clinicians, using a flexible, mobile, and culturally safe approach. You will also provide expert consultation to both internal teams and external stakeholders to build capacity for family-focused practice across services, with a strong emphasis on recovery-oriented, trauma-informed care.

About you:
We are seeking an emotionally intelligent, client centred, passionate and enthusiastic Senior Clinician – who has the ability to support the needs of parents and their infants who are experiencing acute mental health. Expert interpersonal relationships will be key in this role, in order to optimise care provision.

Requirements:
  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications, professional registration/membership as applicable, plus significant clinical experience in Child and Youth Mental Health:
    • Clinical Psychologists must have minimum postgraduate Masters in Clinical Psychology and current registration with AHPRA
    • For Social Work/Occupational Therapy, qualification in accordance with Schedule C, and eligibility for Level 3 of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award. Social Worker eligible for membership of AASW or Occupational Therapy with current registration with AHPRA.
    • For Nursing, current unrestricted registration with AHPRA & meet the requirement for Clinical Nurse Specialist 2 grading under the NSW Public Health System Nurses' & Midwives' State Award.
  • Current unrestricted Australian drivers’ licence.
