About the role:
A typical day will involve completing Drug and Alcohol Assessments with clients, predominantly over the phone, to determine the most suitable Drug & Alcohol service to refer them to and facilitate referrals. You will also be providing information to clients about services available, as well as to family members or friends who may call with concerns for a loved one. Our service operates Monday – Friday (excluding public holidays) 8am-4.30pm.

This role will require you to assist people who are experiencing challenges with alcohol, or other drugs engage with appropriate Drug & Alcohol Services, and/or providing information to clients or family members. We are looking for someone who is innovative, professional, and ethical, with effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. The ability to work in a team environment is also a must.

Who you will be working with:
The Drug & Alcohol Clinical Services (DACS) Intake Team are a small, dynamic team located in the Newcastle Community Health Building at 670 Hunter Street Newcastle. Our team have interesting, rewarding and at times challenging roles. We value and support each other, sharing our knowledge and experience to best support clients and their families.

You will be supported by the Nurse Unit Manager and other multidisciplinary professionals within the team and the wider service, including the DACS Aboriginal Manager, DACS Clinical Nurse Educator and DACS Allied Health Clinical Lead. Professional development and Clinical Supervision are encouraged and supported, and DACS provides education sessions regularly.


Essential Criteria:
Must hold a degree in Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, Counselling or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer, which provides eligibility or membership of the relevant professional association and full registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), where applicable.
