Director of Emergency Medicine
Manning Hospital
1.0FTE (fixed term 12 month contract with the possibility of extension)

Manning Hospital is looking for a natural and motivated leader. About the role:
• The role will be split between 50% clinical time and 50% non-clinical time
• The position involves coordinating the efforts of ED staff to provide the best possible clinical service and to provide Emergency Medicine clinical services
• There is no line management responsibility in this role
• There will be a management allowance associated with this position in addition to the salary offered

About the Hospital:
• Work in a new state of the art Emergency Department (ED) that provides direct patient care, clinical supervision of Junior Medical Officers and assistance with the management of ED services
• Manning Hospital has a busy ED seeing in excess of 33,000 presentations p.a., 30-35% admission rate and 20% Paediatric case load. The ED has 2 resus bays, 14 acute beds (2 paediatric), 5 consult rooms, 1 mental health room and 1 isolation room. There are also plans to establish an ED short stay unit
• Manning Hospital serves the local communities of Taree, Forster, Tuncurry and surrounding districts
• The ED is currently unaccredited for Emergency Medicine training but efforts are in place to ensure this in the years to come
• Manning Hospital has 160 beds including 20 mental health  beds and provides a good range of specialist services including Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Intensive Care Medicine, Anaesthesia, General Surgery, Urology, Orthopaedic Surgery, Internal Medicine, Renal and Oncology Services
 
About the area:
Taree is located on the Lower Mid North Coast of NSW, just 3 hours north of Sydney, 2 hours north of Newcastle and 1 hour south of Port Macquarie. The hospital serves a population of around 100,000 people and encompassing an area of 3,732 km2. The Manning Valley is home to some of the best beaches in Australia. The area is surrounded by magnificent national parks.

  1. Primary medical qualification registrable in New South Wales.
    FACEM or equivalent as deemed suitable by the ACEM or HNE Health.
  2. Demonstrated high level performance in the provision of Emergency Medicine services.
  3. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work well as a team member.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate education.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to a patient focused service.
  6. Commitment to working within a multidisciplinary team.
  7. Computer literacy.
