Position Classification: Clinical Psychologist
Location: Newcastle and Morisset
Hours Per Week: 38

Applications Close: Thursday, 23rd January 2025

The Inpatient Psychology Department operates across three hospital sites – The Calvary Mater acute inpatient mental health at Waratah; the Intermediate Stay Mental Health Unit (ISMHU) mental health rehabilitation unit at Newcastle West; and Morisset Hospital, a longer stay mental health rehabilitation hospital which has both civilian and forensic patients. This is all adult mental health inpatient.
This position is a full-time permanent position (though job-share will be considered) where you will be working across two locations - ISMHU and Morisset Hospital. Both of these locations are our mental health rehabilitation units where the focus is on providing mental health rehab interventions to help consumers (both civilian and forensic) on their recovery journey. We are a diverse and dynamic Psychology Department across the three hospitals delivering gold standard psychological services. We’re a tightknit team who know and support each other. Beyond the support of your fellow Psychologists, you’ll be working in multidisciplinary teams which are equally supportive. Good workplace culture is a high priority to us!
About the role:
In this position, you will provide high quality evidence-based psychological services to our consumers, and consult within the multidisciplinary team. You will get to do really interesting work with our consumers which is meaningful and rewarding. The focus is on mental health rehabilitation where we provide psychological assessments and interventions and therapies which support the person to eventually live well in the community. You will do individual and group programs as part of this role. This role will be across two units – ISMHU in Newcastle East and Kestrel Unit at Morisset Hospital. We provide training opportunities to support your professional development including in the areas of mental health rehabilitation. This position will give you the opportunity to do pure Psychology work (as opposed to care coordination in other more generic roles). You’ll be very supported to grow and develop your skills. It’s a very rewarding role and if you’re passionate about helping people in their mental health recovery journey through rehabilitation, then this might be the role for you!
You will experience a high level of support from the whole MDT at both hospitals, and the wonderful Psychology team across the sites (who are just lovely!), and the department head. You will be given a comprehensive orientation to the role and ongoing support and educational opportunities.
About you:
Our successful candidate will be enthusiastic and motivated to bring their psychological expertise into the adult inpatient setting and work within a team to promote best patient outcomes. You are holistic in your approach and have an understanding of recovery and rehabilitation for patients with mental health illness, and work within a recovery model of care in a mental health setting.
Requirements:
- Current registration as a Psychologist with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Completion of an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council accredited postgraduate clinical psychology qualification of no less than two years full time duration or recognised equivalent, displayed on the Psychology Board of Australia website.
