Where you'll be working:
The NENW Mental Health Service provides acute mental health care across the North West catchment and is comprised of a multidisciplinary team including medical staff and an array of allied health staff. You will be a part of a contemporary and innovative service that provides mental health assessments and treatment across the communities of the North West district.
The service maintains a strong clinical governance structure to ensure the provision of consistent, evidence based and culturally informed mental health care for every patient, every time. The team is passionate about leading change and innovation in the delivery of ambulatory mental health services, with a strong multidisciplinary leadership team.
About the role:
As an Aboriginal Mental Health Clinician with the North West Mental Health Service you will be working within our Adult Community Mental Health Team based in Tamworth. You will provide assessment, consultation and clinical management to adults with varying mental health issues by delivering high quality person-centred care that has a holistic view of health, is culturally competent and is responsive to the needs of Aboriginal People and Non-Aboriginal. You will be work closely with clients to improve access to and engagement with the Community Mental Health Service four days a week. One day a week you will support culturally competent programs and wider community development by acting as a resource and cultural consultant for the multidisciplinary team members.
You will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team utilising evidence-based practice to support a person in their mental health recovery journey to achieve identified goals and outcomes.
The successful applicant will be supported by the Community Manager, Clinical Coordinator and the Profession Lead of the Aboriginal MHS and SEWB workforce. The successful applicant will become part of a wider Hunter New England local Health District Mental Health Service network and will have access to support and education from key district support positions including regular cultural and clinical supervision, professional development and ongoing education.
About you:
We are looking for someone with an interest in working with people who have a variety of major mental health diagnoses, as well as the ability to work efficiently and effectively within a multidisciplinary team. You will also have the ability conduct mental state examinations including assessing risk and developing Care Plans for consumers. You will have a strong link to community with ability to support cultural consultation processes, community development initiatives and acting as a cultural consultant.
Requirements:
- Must hold a qualification: Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Nursing, Social Work, Counsellor (Degree in Bachelor of Health Science Mental health, Djirruwang Program) which provides eligibility or membership of the relevant professional association / provisional or general registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
- Eligible to drive in NSW with ability and willingness to travel for work purposes.
