About the role:

As a Social Worker at Maple Leaf House, you will provide client and family support, gender identity counselling and assist clients in their gender expression and exploration. You will also support community engagement and education relating to the healthcare of the trans and gender diverse community.

You will be supported professionally by the Allied Health Lead and provided with both personal and team supervision. On the job training will be provided in relation to building clinical skills in understanding the complexities of gender diversity and its impact on wellbeing. In addition, appropriate external training is encouraged and supported and can be applied for through the appropriate channels.

Where you’ll be working:

Maple Leaf House is one of two specialist service hubs in NSW providing outpatient based holistic care to young people to age 25 years who are transgender, gender exploring or experiencing gender dysphoria. We are a service provided through the John Hunter Children’s Hospital and based within the Community in Hamilton East. We have a multi-disciplinary team including psychology, psychiatry, social work, speech pathology, dietetics, and specialist nursing and medical staff. The team is supported by dedicated administrative staff.

You will be working in an evolving area of health care with the opportunity to have a significant impact on the lives of young people.

About you:

We are looking for someone with an interest in working in trans and gender-diverse healthcare. You will be able to build relationships and manage workload and priorities such as providing clinical interventions, consultation, education, and research.

Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will be vital to working in a dynamic environment with a highly skilled multidisciplinary team

Requirements:

  • Bachelor in Social Work or equivalent with eligibility for membership with Australian Association of Social Work (AASW)

  • To be eligible for permanent employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or a permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport.
