Where you’ll be working:
The Intermediate Stay Mental Health Unit (ISMHU) is a 20-bed, non-acute rehabilitation facility providing high-quality, recovery-oriented care to individuals living with enduring mental health challenges and psychosocial disability. Located within a tertiary setting, ISMHU supports people motivated to build skills, self-confidence, and relationships that contribute to a more meaningful and independent life.
Our multidisciplinary team is passionate about providing person-centred, value-based care in a positive and collaborative environment. Staff work closely with consumers over extended stays of 6 to 12 weeks, focusing on psychosocial rehabilitation and long-term recovery outcomes.
About the role:
As the Senior Social Worker, you will play a key leadership role within the ISMHU multidisciplinary team, working alongside a Level 1/2 Social Worker. You will contribute to and guide care coordination, provide one-on-one and group interventions focused on recovery and rehabilitation, and lead in the completion of comprehensive psychosocial assessments.
Your role will also involve promoting a positive, person-centred team culture, participating in quality improvement initiatives and district-level working groups, and supervising junior social workers. This is a rare opportunity to deliver authentic, recovery-driven social work practice in a highly collaborative and supportive setting.
About you:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated social worker who is:
- Passionate about recovery-oriented mental health care
- An effective communicator and team collaborator
- Confident in clinical assessment and therapeutic practice
- Able to provide professional leadership and mentorship
- Committed to fostering a positive workplace culture and contributing to service improvement initiatives
A strong understanding of psychosocial rehabilitation principles and the ability to build genuine, empowering relationships with consumers is essential. Leadership and supervisory skills are non-negotiable for this senior role, while specific rehabilitation techniques and local protocols can be learned on the job.
Requirements:
- Must hold a degree in Social Work that provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
- Extensive clinical experience in mental health, with demonstrated ability to lead and supervise
