About the Service
This role is based at Belmont Hospital, a well-respected facility within the Hunter New England Local Health District.
You’ll be working alongside a cohesive and supportive team focused on providing a safe and secure environment for staff, patients, and visitors.
The team values professionalism, initiative, and calm under pressure.
About the Role
As a Security Officer, you’ll play a key role in maintaining safety and order across the hospital environment.
You’ll be the first line of response for incidents involving aggression or unsafe behaviour, helping to identify and manage risks before they escalate.
You’ll be the sole Security Officer on duty, trusted to manage all aspects of site safety and response.
This is not your average security job – you’ll be part of a trusted health care team, using your skills in de-escalation, customer service, and surveillance to protect vulnerable people and keep operations running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a visible and reassuring presence across hospital grounds
- Monitor access points and CCTV
- Conduct internal and external patrols
- Perform duress alarm testing
- Undertake white-level inspections (bomb threat assessment patrols)
- Assist in incident prevention, intervention, and response
- Maintain accurate records and reports for incidents and interventions
About You
You’re calm, collected and capable of navigating complex situations with a cool head and a professional manner.
You understand that great security is about proactive thinking and human connection, not just physical presence.
What you’ll bring
- A current Security Licence and First Aid Certificate (essential)
- Proven experience in security operations, preferably in a health or high-stakes environment
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to de-escalate challenging situations with confidence and tact
- Sound judgment under pressure and a proactive attitude
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Why Join Us?
You’ll be joining a stable and supportive team, backed by experienced security professionals and hospital staff.
You won’t be thrown in the deep end – comprehensive on-the-job training is provided, along with opportunities to refresh and grow your skillset throughout your career.
This role also opens the door to broader career development opportunities within the NSW Health system, while giving you a chance to make a meaningful impact every day.
