Position Overview

The Assistant Project Director assists with achieving project / program outcomes for a variety of major hospital project(s) within the Health Infrastructure portfolio. The role undertakes a range of project management activities including project planning, partner negotiation and milestone reporting for a project, or for sub-components of a project.

The role works collaboratively with key stakeholders including NSW Ministry of Health [MoH], Local Health Districts [LHDs] and external service providers.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support HI’s integrated project teams to implement complex projects, ensuring high levels of work performance and project completion within agreed timeframes, quality standards and budget.

  • Support the Senior Project Director(s) or Project Director, or as directed, to meet project milestones and deliverables. Assist in managing the transition seamlessly between all stages of the project lifecycle to ensure changes are consistent with organisational goals. Lead sub-components of a project as required.

  • Contribute across all aspects of a project life cycle including, but not limited to, business case development, project briefs, project management, resource allocation, partner consultation, budget management and key milestone reports.

  • Support the development of stakeholder relationships, assisting the Senior Project Director (or as directed) to manage project issues, drive collaboration and focus on client centricity. Foster long-term partnerships with external consultants and promote a positive work culture.

  • Conduct projects with a focus on Work, Health and Safety as a priority to ensure a culture of safety and all staff go home safely every day.

  • Communicate effectively to optimise outcomes while engaging and translating project information concisely for diverse technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Analyse and interpret information from different sources to identify issues and risks and formulate effective strategies to remedy variances from project plans and minimise impact.

Essential Requirements

  1. Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Project Management or a technically related field and demonstrated relevant industry experience.

  2. Experience with projects designed to improve service delivery, reduce capital and operational costs and increase financial viability.

  3. Proven ability to successfully collaborate within cross-functional project teams.

There are five roles available across our Northern (metro), Western (metro) and Rural & Regional Regions. The roles are temporary full time for a period of two years. Extensive travel may be required.
