The Broken Hill Health Service is seeking a Staff Specialist Physician.


Broken Hill is the centre of the Far West New South Wales outback and is 500km north east of Adelaide and 1,100km west of Sydney.  There are daily flights to major cities.


The Broken Hill Hospital has 100 beds that services a wide area with a population of 25,000 people.  It is a rural teaching hospital, providing acute, non-acute and outpatient services, including dialysis and chemotherapy.  It has an emergency department, general medical, surgical, obstetrics & gynaecology, paediatric, mental health and sub-acute beds.  Work is underway to enhance the level of ICU and CCU.  Support services include Pathology, Medical Imaging (CT scan), as well as a wide range of Allied and Primary Health services.


What you'll be doing


Provide professional General Physician care to public and private patients of the facility, consistent with the clinical privileges and role delineation determined by FWLHD.

Skills and Knowledge

  1. Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  2. Specialist registration or eligible for specialist registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  3. Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Physicians (FRACP) and/or equivalent specialist recognition.
  4. Demonstrated technical and professional competence in the specialty, including recent hospital experience within the specialty.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, Colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites. Demonstrated commitment to provision of a high standard of clinical care in the public sector setting.
  6. Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
  7. Current valid Working with Children Check.
