We are offering a unique opportunity to work with an award-winning, vibrant, enthusiastic and innovative integrated Specialist Palliative Care Team in rural and remote NSW:

 

  • Resident Medical Officer - Palliative Care, Broken Hill Health Service, Far West LHD, NSW
    • Become a valued member of a multi-professional team of Specialist Palliative Care Doctors, Nurses and Allied Health professionals.
    • Provide comprehensive palliative care in Broken Hill, predominantly in the in-patient setting, as well as within the community, at home and residential aged care settings, in collaboration with our local healthcare partners including the Royal Flying Doctor Service


  • Receive regular supervision, training and palliative care teaching, provided locally by the resident Specialist Palliative Care Physician, and by videoconference with other Palliative Care JMOs across NSW
  • Participate in Hospital JMO education, training, teaching and social programs
  • Opportunity to complete optional Clinical Diploma in Palliative Medicine, accredited by Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP)
  • Opportunity to be involved in audit, quality improvement, research and medical student teaching with the Broken Hill University Department of Rural Heath (University of Sydney)

What you'll be doing

Under the guidance and supervision of with the Palliative Care Staff Specialist and in consultation with other treating clinicians, this position will provide appropriate clinical assessment and medical management of patients under the care of the Broken Hill Specialist Palliative Care Service

Skills and Knowledge

  1. Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent. Unconditional general and/or specialist registration with Medical Board of Australia and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). At least three (3) years of post-graduate practice, including 6 months general medicine experience
  2. Demonstrated recent clinical experience of caring for palliative care patients and their families holistically and ethically. Interest in pursuing a career or specialist interest in palliative care
  3. Demonstrated sound interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  4. Demonstrated exceptional and sensitive verbal, written and electronic clinical communication to facilitate open and effective relationships patients, families and colleagues
  5. Demonstrated ability to actively contribute to own continuing professional development
  6. Demonstrated experience of and commitment to medical education and willingness to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching of other health professionals
  7. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to ensuring high quality of patient care through participating in peer review, quality assurance, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management activities
  8. Current Drivers Licence and willingness to travel within the Far West LHD
