About the Opportunity

The Far West LHD is seeking applicants for a unique opportunity with the Violence Abuse and Neglect Team in Broken Hill as VAN Clinician. 

The Violence Abuse & Neglect (VAN) Health Clinician Joint Child Protection Response (JCPR) & Child Wellbeing position is responsible for providing direct support to children and young people who have experienced serious and criminal sexual and physical abuse and neglect in partnership with the VAN Senior Management team and JCPRP interagency partners (NSW Police and Department of Communities and Justice).

The VAN Health Clinician JCPR & Child Wellbeing is also responsible for supporting provision of advice, support and education for Mandatory Reporters to help them determine the level of risk to a child or young person and to plan what initial action may need to occur, including ensuring all suspected risk of significant harm (ROSH) matters are reported to the Child Protection Helpline.

    How to apply
    To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the selection criteria in the application as thoroughly as possible:

    1. Relevant degree in Social Work and membership (or demonstrated eligibility for membership if required by professional association) of the professional association; in addition to meeting the criteria for a Health Professional level 3; OR full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Psychologist.
    2. Demonstrated experience and advanced clinical practice & knowledge in the field of child protection intervention and crisis intervention, counselling and case management including working with children, young people and their families.
    3. Demonstrated significant knowledge of child protection issues, including relevant legislation and guidelines, particularly in relation to the JCPR Program.
    4. Demonstrated high level understanding, ability to work collaboratively and maintain relationships with interagency partners including NSW Police Force and Department of Communities and Justice, health services and other key stakeholders in relation to children and young people who have experienced serious and criminal sexual assault, physical abuse and neglect.
    5. Demonstrated advised clinical knowledge of sexual assault and child protection theory and practice, crisis intervention and a high level of contemporary intervention skills appropriate to JCPR victims together with a commitment to ongoing professional development and evidence based practice.
    6. Demonstrated experience in delivering education and training to staff, coordinating community engagement activities and education programs.
    7. Demonstrated advanced level of communication (computer, written and verbal), interpersonal and negotiation skills with variety of client groups, staff and agencies.
    8. Evidence of current unrestricted NSW drivers licence and willingness to travel as part of the role.
