This position qualifies for a Recruitment Incentive Package up to the value of $10,000 (pro-rata part-time/temporary positions less than 18 months), and a reoccurring Annual Retention Bonus valued up to $10,000 (pro-rata part time), under the NSW Health Rural Health Workforce Incentive Scheme.
This scheme recognises the role key health workers play in enabling the delivery of rural and remote health services and aims to provide incentives over and above award entitlements, to attract and retain staff in these areas.
To recognise ongoing service in this role, once the successful candidate has served a qualifying period, they will become entitled to a reoccurring Annual Retention Bonus valued up to $10,000 (as taxable income).

Location: Wilcannia NSW (2 hours from Broken Hill)
  • Are you an experienced clinician or have a background in Primary Health Nursing with strong people management experience and ready to make your next career move?
  • We are looking for a flexible and agile leader to work across two remote communities working closely with the Royal Flying Doctor Service and Aboriginal organisation Maari Ma
  • Key to your success, will be your strong leadership and team culture development coupled by your ability to grow capability in your team to improve the patient experience in the rural communities we serve.
  • The Wilcannia Multi-Purpose Service (MPS) has a 24-hour 2 bed emergency department and 8 residential aged care beds
  • White Cliffs operates as a Primary Health Clinic within hours emergency service and emergency services after hours on call

What you will be doing

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Health Service Manager to lead and grow our Wilcannia MPS and White Cliff Remote Health teams. You are a change enabler and culture champion, with exceptional clinician skills that thrives being hands on working on the floor sharing best practice, whilst being responsible for all resources including people, facility management and community relationships. 

You will be empathic, flexible, and adaptable and a good listener.  Your role will involve integrating into the community whilst maintaining healthy professional and personal boundaries.  You will be proactive, have recent experience in emergency medicine including triage, and be comfortable working in a remote location where you are the most senior clinician available.

Some of your responsibilities include but are not limited too:

  • Provide safe patient care to a 24/7 MPC across Wilcannia and White Cliffs
  • You will be the face and ambassador representing FWHLD where you will grow your community connections including schools and NGO’s
  • Triage experience and recent emergency department experience
  • Auditing, compliance and training
  • Being on call and travel is required as part of this role

How To Apply 

To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the selection criteria in the application as thoroughly as possible.

  • Current nursing registration (as well preferably as a midwife) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Demonstrated recency of clinical competency/practice in the Emergency Department and Triage competent.
  • Postgraduate Tertiary Qualifications in Management and/or Leadership or working towards (Masters Level).
  • Demonstrated Leadership skills including conflict resolution, mediation and negotiation, and the ability to motivate, inspire and manage staff to achieve service and professional goals through recognised change management processes.
  • Proven ability to function effectively as part of a senior management team and to work successfully with other professions and disciplines in the management of health care services.
  • Broad clinical and operational management expertise at a senior level within a health care environment, including strategic planning, the development, implementation and evaluation of organisational Strategic & Business plans and Project management.
  • Demonstrated successful achievement in financial management and the ability to develop financial efficiency strategies and achieve goals.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the role, function & funding of public hospitals within the NSW and Australian Health systems.
